Woodridge, Brisbane house fire: Mother and son tragically die

A mother and her disabled son have tragically died in a house fire.

The two-storey house on Cypress Street in Woodridge, south Brisbane, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 6pm on Sunday.

A woman in her 80s and a disabled man in his 60s, believed to be her son, were pronounced dead at the scene after being discovered inside.

Queensland Police Acting Inspector Mark Procter said the cause of the fire was being investigated by detectives.

The police do not consider the fire suspicious.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said the fire was brought under control by three crews about 6.30pm.

“Three crews arrived on scene at 6.15pm,” he said.

‘The fire was under control at 6.30 pm. The house was well involved.’
