Magical: The Warner Bros. Pictures musical fantasy film is set to hit theaters on December 15, 2023.
The film focuses on the younger Willy – a character from Roald Dahl’s famous 1964 book Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Wonka is the third film based on the book – in 1971, Gene Wilder played Willy in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and in 2015, Johnny Depp played Willy in Tim Burton’s film.
The trailer opens with Hugh’s character – an Oompa Loompa named Lofty – captured by Timothy’s Willy – as they meet for the first time.
He’s seen sneaking in to steal what appears to be milk chocolate and white chocolate treats in a jar – and proceeds to get caught in an elaborate trap that imprisons him.
‘I got you!’ Timothy is heard speaking.
“So you’re the funny little man that’s been following me,” Willy says as he looks at him in the clear glass bottle.
“Funny little man?” How dare you, he tells Willy. “I want you to know that I’m a perfectly respectable size for an Oompa Loompa.”
Lofty knocks on his glass prison as Willy says in confusion, ‘Oompa-what-now?’
“Actually, in Loompaland, I’m considered something of a giant.” My name is Lofty,” she tells him.
“Sorry,” says an apologetic Willy.
