Furious West Ham manager Rehanne Skinner said women’s football still needs to ‘grow up’ after her team was on the wrong end of controversial performances on Sunday.
The Hammers were defeated 2-0 by Chelsea, but had a goal wrongly disallowed for offside when they were 1-0 down. Riko Ueki was also wrongly flagged for offside in the second half when he scored on goal.
It comes after Manchester United boss Marc Skinner said VAR should be used for matches played in major stadiums after Manchester City’s first goal in the 3-1 derby win was allowed to stand despite Bunny Shaw being ruled offside in the build-up .
‘It’s not good enough. The bottom line is that if I operated like that in my job, I wouldn’t be doing my job,” West Ham boss Skinner said on Sunday.
‘That’s the starting point. People can say it’s because we lost 2-0 and stuff like that, but it’s because it happens a lot and it’s been three games now.

“Apologizing after the match doesn’t change the outcome. A lot of people talk about VAR and things like that, and if that’s what we have to do to get good results, then that’s what we have to do.
“At the end of the day, the referees are still not professional in this game so they’re not really in a situation where they’re just focusing on these games and I think that just needs to change. The game still has so much growing up to do that we’re still not fully up to speed on the game.”
Chelsea’s win takes them back to the top of the Women’s Super League after Manchester City surpassed them with a win over United on Saturday.
