Women share ‘horror’ experiences while travelling Australia – and the place one will never feel safe again

Women have revealed their ‘horror’ experiences while traveling around Australia – and why the country isn’t always the haven it should be.

Many have often warned others of the dangers of the Outback, especially if traveling alone in the middle of the night.

Jane*, from South Australia, revealed she was driving through New South Wales with her family when their car was attacked.

‘I was fourteen and we went to visit our great-grandparents. It was nighttime and we knew we shouldn’t stop for anything or anyone in this part of the country,” she wrote on Facebook.

“We slowed down as we drove through a small town, (and found) bars on the windows, burnt out cars, dilapidated houses. A group of people ran out of the bushes and tried to jump over us and pinch the camping gear we had on the roof racks.”

Another Sydney woman, Amanda*, revealed a simple train journey turned into something much more sinister when she was confronted by a ‘creepy’ driver – and the encounter has soured her public transport experience.

“I was a teenager and a friend and I was tipsy and driving home. The train was mostly empty and somehow we reached the front.

‘The driver let us into the cab with him while he was doing his train check – and then he locked the door and wouldn’t let us out!’

The women were overcome with fear and did not know how to escape from the precarious situation.

They were shocked that a train driver would put them in such danger.

“We were freaking out but trying to play it cool,” she said.

“Another man on the train noticed and started banging on the door from the other side and the driver eventually let us off.”

But the nightmare was not over yet: the duo was still far from home.

‘We were stuck in Lithgow at 2am and a station worker ended up taking us home, which was an hour’s drive away.’

Amanda was shocked that nothing really bad had happened to her and her friend.
