Woman’s body is found in Muswellbrook

The body of a woman has been found in the mining town of Muswellbrook, in the Hunter Valley region, about three hours northwest of Sydney.

NSW Police launched a critical incident investigation into her death on Tuesday morning after the body was found during a welfare check.

A crime scene has been established at the Sydney Street address and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death has begun.

Strike Force Llangollen is carrying out the investigation and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Unit has arrived at the scene.

A critical incident team from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District will investigate all other circumstances surrounding the incident.

The woman has not yet been formally identified, but is believed to be in her 60s.

The investigation will be subject to an independent assessment.
