Woman who spent $400 on a blowout reveals DISASTROUS results in hilarious video – as viewers joke she looks like Marie Antoinette and George Washington

A woman suffered a hilarious hair mishap after spending $400 on botched pin curls, with her sister documenting the beauty misstep in a now-viral TikTok.

Leigha Antonia from New York further described the ordeal the video sharing platformoverlaid with the text: “My sister is getting her hair done for $400 in preparation for our trip to Europe,” and the caption: “Naur.”

Usually, Leigha shares 'thoughts and passes' with her 22,000 followers, and recently this included their preparation for the holiday, but it didn't quite go as planned.

Commenters were shocked by the old-fashioned pin curls and wondered why she would spend so much money on the hairstyle.

The Vintage Staple: What Are Pin Curls?

  • A hairstylist uses a curling iron and then rolls the hair around his finger to maintain the curl
  • The stylist then pins the curl close to the scalp with two hairpins crossed
  • Once the hair has completely hardened, the strands can be loosened and released
  • The style was especially popular in the 1940s and 1950s

In the video, her sister showed off curls that she had to remove one by one.

As her sister loosened her curls, their grandmother was seen crying with laughter in the background.

The curls looked tight and messy, and many of them didn't fall into soft waves at all.

Instead, the curls looked completely messy and were all different.

The video revealed the shocking results, which certainly weren't worth hundreds of dollars… and TikTok commenters agreed.

β€œ$400 for a wash, blow-dry and curl is bullshit,” read one popular comment.

In response to the backlash, Leigha shared a video of her sister “responding to mean comments on her viral video,” with the sibling urging people to “empower women,” and labeling her trolls as “mean.”

Others loved that the grandmother got in on the joke, writing, “Not Grandma Laughing,” and “Grandma just got $400 worth of comedy.”

Most people were just concerned about how much the hairstylist was charging and asked, “$400 for hot rollers?” She also knows she's going to take a long plane trip first, right?'

Others wrote, “Isn't $400 the price of the plane ticket?” and β€œ$400?!?!?” For curls updo????'

One person commented: 'I think you added one too many zeros there.'

β€œI knew as soon as I saw the curls pinned up,” one commenter noted, sparking conversation, while another replied, β€œMy thoughts exactly! Who does that?'

β€œOnce secured, the curls start to twist upward, if that makes sense. If it sticks, they will fall like normal curls,” said one helpful commenter.

One beauty guru took the comments to heart, clarifying, “It's like curling the front part of your hair the wrong way so it looks weird when it hits your face.”

One commentator joked: “She's ready for Versailles,” referring to the elaborately curled wigs of Queen of France Marie Antoinette, while another critic compared her locks to George Washington's famous hairstyle, which was tied into a powdered ponytail.

Another wrote: 'That's a perfect hairstyle for a 19th century trip.'

Leigha isn't the first person to document a hair disaster on social media – and go viral for their efforts.

Chicago-based comedian Maggie Hughes DePalo shared a trending TikTok after her hair-raising experience of having a blowout and her followers couldn't believe how high her hairstyle was, even touching the top of her car.

Hopefully the sisters had a good trip through Europe and could get their money back for the botched haircut.
