Marriage is a form of life imprisonment, but this woman’s fiancé is serving a different sentence: for murder.
Kat first met her fiancé Lazy when they were both 13 years old. She described them as “childhood sweethearts.”
After losing touch after high school, Lazy found Kat on Facebook after 11 years and the two reconnected. However, a quick Google search revealed that he was now in prison.
Kat says Lazy is the love of her life, but her family and friends are strongly against the relationship, as he is serving a life sentence plus 35 years for murder.
“My heart broke,” she confessed.

However, that didn’t stop the couple from dating before officially becoming a couple in March 2021.
“I feel like he thought we were an official couple from the first day we started talking,” she chuckled.
“He called me his girlfriend and I was like, ‘You never asked me,’ but then he finally asked me,” she recalls.
Kat explains that she is often inundated with comments and messages from trolls. Her family also reacts ‘very negatively’ when they find out. Her mother in particular does not want to talk to her about Lazy.
“I can’t go to her about my relationship,” she complained. “I think she should give him a chance – I’m not a child, I’m an adult and I deserve happiness.”
However, this doesn’t stop her from making Lazy a part of her family.
She explained that the criminal once became the stepfather of her daughter Bella, ‘because of their bond in the relationship.’
“I’m so happy that they get along so well,” she added.

Kat said she was “very anxious and nervous” about how her daughter and fiancé would get along, but in her eyes it all turned out fine.
“I never introduced my daughter to another man, especially not one who was in prison,” she vowed.
“He always makes sure she’s there so he doesn’t miss a birthday, Christmas or anything,” she added.
Lazy says he loves being Bella’s stepfather because he doesn’t have any biological children of his own and has always wanted kids.
“I love her very much,” he said passionately.
The mother added that she has told her daughter about Lazy’s crime and wants her to know that “there are consequences for her actions.”
“I think it’s really important for her to see the reality of real life,” she said.
Despite the negative reactions, Kat said Lazy makes her feel “good and confident.”

‘[He’s always] “He calls me, sends me letters, buys me presents, spoils me because he knows my love language is presents,” she said.
She stays in touch with Lazy by phone and email. When they fight, she goes to the prison to visit him, she says.
Lazy says he doesn’t regret starting a romance in prison. He tells Kat in a phone call: ‘Just because I’m in prison doesn’t mean I shouldn’t continue my life.’
Despite criticism from those she loves and from strangers, Kat loves Lazy and wouldn’t have it any other way.
“People who judge us say, I really don’t care, it has nothing to do with me,” she explained.
“Lazy has changed my life for the better,” she continued. “He has shown me and taught me what unconditional love is and he has shaped me into a better woman.”
