Woman thought her date was ghosting her but he was in a coma… and now, they’re traveling the world together

The love story of a couple whose lives were almost destroyed by a horrific accident hit the internet in June, and now it has been revealed that they are still going strong.

In 2022, Cody Bryant and Haley Woloshen met in Hawaii and immediately bonded after discovering they lived just a mile apart in Los Angeles.

The two spent several weeks together before Bryant suddenly stopped responding to Woloshen’s messages, leading her to believe she had been “ghosted” by him.

However, the reality could not be more different: Bryant had actually been hit by a car while riding a moped in Ibiza and had suffered significant injuries that left him in a coma.

Woloshen only made the discovery after he had a GoFundMe page for Bryant created by his friends and family detailing the accident, which left him with a brain injury and a broken femur.

After months of grueling rehabilitation, the couple reunited. But due to Bryant’s traumatic brain injury, he had no memory of their time together.

Woloshen first started helping him ‘platonically’, but later it became more.

They spoke about their trip online earlier this year and it went viral – and now the couple is still happily in love and even traveling the world together.

‘Neither of us expected it, but the feelings started to build. I joke she won me over for the second time,” Bryant previously wrote in a Instagram post describing their love story.

He was eventually allowed to return to the Hermosa Beach home he shared with his three roommates, all the while undergoing physical, occupational and speech therapy.

The accident left him with hemiplegia, or partial paralysis, causing doctors to fear he would never walk again.

However, Bryant was determined to beat the odds – and he did.

Now the couple, who have been together for more than a year, has a great update to share, as Bryant revealed in November that she was moving to Europe together for two weeks.

“I’ve read that traveling is good for your brain, and I’ve definitely seen it in action after my brain injury,” Bryant shared in a video on Instagram, which was accompanied by adorable clips of the two enjoying their adventures. together.

Bryant explained that this was the first extended trip abroad he had taken since his injury.

Before the accident, Bryant wrote that he “lived for travel,” but now it has taken on a whole new meaning for him.

“There are many things about traveling that are difficult, navigating unfamiliar places, communicating with people who don’t speak English, not having a consistent routine, to name a few,” he admitted.

‘Although this can be difficult and quite tiring, I find it helps me enormously.

“Forcing my brain to work through these situations and solve problems the way it did before has been really helpful.”

He explained that these situations can be big or small, like figuring out how to navigate public transportation or even trying to get their rental car out of the loose sand when it gets stuck.

However, these are all things that Bryant found exciting.

“I love feeling my brain stronger while doing one of my favorite things: seeing new places and experiencing the world,” he said in the clip.

In early July, Bryant also wrote an update on his GoFundMe page about the progress he had made.

He said he believed some aspects of his personality had changed since he suffered the brain injury.

“My most obvious changes include being more introverted and empathetic, having different interests, being more sensitive to stress, a lack of social stamina and mental bandwidth,” Bryant wrote.

“I think my humor was always childish, but now I’m also reactive, short-sighted and emotional,” he continued.

“For a while, I put a lot of energy into being who I think Cody once was. Maintaining this facade was tiring.

“I’ve even been watching old videos of myself and re-reading text convos and social media posts. It felt like fiction, but I could vaguely remember emotions.

“It would make me strangely nostalgic and sad knowing I’ll never feel that way again. Being aware of this really messed up my mind. I feel like the failed AI clone in Netflix’s Black Mirror episode ‘Be Right Back.’

Bryant said that early in his journey, doctors told his family to “grieve the old him,” which he found difficult.

‘How do you grieve someone who is still alive? “I didn’t even realize I had a brain injury and I thought everyone was being dramatic by putting me in rehab for a broken leg,” he added.

‘Rachel couldn’t figure out why her problem-solving brother wasn’t motivated to recover. As you can see, brain injury is complex.’

‘Fortunately, one thing is ingrained in me: my way of thinking. I have been humbled by so many new shortcomings, but I still believe that I can overcome anything.

‘So I take this opportunity to become a new person. With my greater appreciation for life and stronger empathy, I build good habits and strive to help people.”
