Woman tries to surprise her long-distance boyfriend on New Year’s Eve… but it goes horribly wrong

  • The video of a woman surprising her boyfriend on NYE recently went viral
  • Viewers noticed he looked uncomfortable and displeased when she showed up
  • People now call him ‘2025 Couch Guy’, but some claim she is a stalker

You want to ring in the New Year with your loved ones… but a woman’s video showing her attempt to surprise her boyfriend has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.

The divisive clip was originally posted by TikTok user Carleigh under the username @carbar3. She has since deleted the video, but reposts shared on the video-sharing app show the boyfriend’s questionable moves.

In the clip, the woman arrives at a New Year’s Eve party, excited to see her long-distance partner – who looked like he had seen a ghost as she walked up behind him.

While Carleigh, dressed in a striking purple dress with a feather boa, seemed excited when he saw the unnamed man, he cringed as he looked over his shoulder.

“Surprising my boyfriend on New Year’s Eve (he thought I was at work),” the woman captioned the video.

As the girlfriend looked ecstatic to spend the New Year with the man she loves, he was seen holding his drink and looking around desperately as his face grew redder and redder.

Carleigh didn’t notice his discomfort and continued to look around excitedly as he seemed to walk away.

Some viewers also believed he physically pushed his girlfriend away when she leaned in for a kiss.

The man has since been dubbed the ‘bank guy of 2025’ – as his behavior is reminiscent of the infamous 2021 TikTok video in which a girl surprises her boyfriend at university – where eagle-eyed viewers claim he looked more shocked than excited to see her.

The video went viral and skeptical users made their own clips to share their thoughts on the surprise.

“This is another ‘bank guy’, but even worse,” user says Stephanie Tleiji declared in a video with more than 1.4 million views.

“I feel like she’s the other women and she doesn’t know it yet,” another TikTok user commented on the video.

“The way he pushes her back when she comes in for a kiss,” someone else said.

Others argued that he seemed scared rather than defensive – the hypothesis being that the relationship may not have been as serious as she thinks.

‘He’s not a bank guy, he doesn’t even seem like he knows they’re dating. More like “my situationship showed up unannounced at my New Year’s party,” one user argued.

“I feel like this is his stalker NOT his girlfriend…” someone else wrote.

Last year, a woman was left heartbroken after seeing her boyfriend on dating app Hinge as he lay next to her on the couch.

Grace, who goes by @glutenfreeprincess13 on TikTok, regularly boasts about her PDA-filled romance online to her 6,000 followers.

However, her fairytale love story came to an abrupt halt when she discovered her boyfriend, Alexis, 24, had created a dating profile.

The unnamed friend connected her phone to the TV and showed off the breathtaking find while revealing that Grace’s boyfriend was actively looking for a new love interest. The viral clip was captioned: “I’m sick. #Cheatingboyfriend.’

“I had my roommate download Hinge and play it on the screen and we caught my friend on Hinge while he was sitting next to me,” the text overlay read.

As soon as he saw his dating profile on the big screen, Alexis jumped off the couch and fell to his knees on the floor.

He then hid his face in an attempt to hide his embarrassment.

“Oh my God, oh my God,” Grace repeated as they scrolled through his dating profile. The profile also included a green dot at the top, indicating he had been active while cuddling up to Grace on the couch.
