Woman slammed after stealing her best friend’s ‘perfect’ baby name four days before she gave birth
A young mother has come under fire for committing the ultimate friendship crime by stealing her best friend’s ‘perfect’ baby name.
Alison* and Mary* were both due within three weeks and decided to go out for dinner with a group of friends a month before they gave birth.
I heard [Mary] “We tell our other friend about her favorite name choice,” Alison wrote in an Australian podcast LuAnna.
“I know it’s awful, but at that moment I just knew that was the name I wanted for my baby. It was risky because we were due to be born in a few weeks and you never know how these things are going to turn out.”
Alison further explained: ‘As luck would have it, my little angel, although late, was born four days before her and [I took the name].
“I sent her a picture of my baby with the name and weight. She saw the message but didn’t respond right away.”
Despite the misstep, Alison couldn’t feel guilty about her actions.
“I knew she was upset, but my baby was already here and she had the perfect name, so I didn’t care,” she admitted.

“My friend responded later that day and congratulated me. Her baby came days later and she clearly used a different name that she also loves and that fits her baby perfectly.”
Alison said that Mary never discussed the incident with her and that she promised never to tell anyone about the name theft.
Many were shocked by this horrific act.
“That’s not a friend,” said one. “That’s a terrible thing to do. I wouldn’t even congratulate her.”
Another shared: ‘My friend named her daughter, who was born three years later, the exact same name as mine. I was devastated.’
But not everyone had a problem with friends ‘stealing’ their baby names.
‘A former colleague asked if she minded if she gave her daughter the same name as mine. I was flattered and took it as a compliment, it’s quite a unique name so I’m glad someone else liked it enough to use it too!’ said one.
“Why can’t both people use the same name? You can’t expect to have the right to common baby book names,” argued another.
