Woman sparks uproar after revealing she asked parents NOT to change ‘extremely stinky’ diaper
A woman has sparked furious outrage after she revealed that a couple changed their baby’s “extremely smelly” nappy on an airplane tray mid-flight.
The unnamed Reddit user reignited the heated conversation around flight etiquette just days after a pilot revealed his ultimate rules for travel.
The 28-year-old woman revealed she was berated by a couple after pleading with them not to change a smelly nappy in the middle of their seats.
She wondered if she was wrong in a thread titled ‘Am I the asshole?for telling the parents to go to the bathroom to change their child’s diaper.

The 28-year-old woman revealed she was berated by a couple after begging them not to change a smelly nappy in the middle of their seats
The message read: “I was on a flight for several hours today, sitting behind a couple with a baby. I’m a really sick flier so I took a Dramamine beforehand and did my best to get some sleep during the flight.
“This didn’t happen because of the baby crying, but hey, I know flights are scary and stressful for babies and there was nothing anyone could do about that.
What annoyed me was that the couple was in the middle of their seats changing their baby’s extremely smelly No. 2 diaper and using the mother’s tray as a changing table. We were in the back of the plane near the bathrooms, which I confirmed had changing tables when I had to go there to vomit after the smell reached me.”
She explained that the parents changed their baby’s diaper twice during the flight.
The first time it happened, the anonymous traveler revealed that she kept her mouth shut.
But by the second time, she had had enough.
She revealed, “I didn’t say anything the first time, but the second time I heard them go into the diaper bag a few hours later, I asked if they could please go to the plane bathroom instead of exposing everyone on the plane to the odor.’
And while she thought the parents would be nice and listen to her request, she got a very different response than she expected.
Other users on the social media platform were quick to defend the woman, berating the parents for their ‘disgusting’ behavior
The Reddit user revealed that the mom started yelling at her about the stress of parenthood.
“The mother was angry with me and said I had no idea how stressful it is to travel with a baby, which is true – I don’t have children,” she explained.
Fortunately, however, the flight crew sided with the woman rather than the mother.
“The flight attendant at the back of the plane agreed with me and asked them to use the bathrooms only to change their baby, and a few minutes later the pilot announced that all diapers in the bathrooms needed to be changed, after which both parents looked very annoyed,’ she explained.
She ended her post by wondering if she was the “bastard” to ask the parents to “stop changing their baby in the middle of the plane and inadvertently bring it to the attention of the flight crew?”
Other users on the social media platform were quick to defend the woman, berating the parents for their “disgusting” behavior.
One person wrote, “Not the a**hole. There are commodes in the bathrooms. That’s what they’re for.
Thank goodness the maintenance crews are disinfecting between flights. The thought of eating/drinking from a tray used as a commode makes me want to swing.’
Another user commented, “Basic baby changing rules: don’t do it where people eat or where people are around. If you have the choice, always use the commodes. ‘
“What they did was disgusting,” said another.
One mom even chimed in and said, “As a mom who’s traveled with babies, that’s disgusting.”
A pilot said, “Pilot here. That’s what the bathrooms are for. You are not alone on a plane and having a baby is no excuse for anti-social behavior.
“If you don’t respect your fellow passengers, you probably shouldn’t be flying. I bet if they were on the receiving end they would be the first to complain.
“I have a lot of urine and stool stories from my flights and I have no tolerance for unforgivable behavior. Accidents are fine.
“We are all human and I have empathy for people with medical issues. Laziness and rights are where I draw the line. Flying is a privilege, not a right, and I have no problem withdrawing that privilege from people who don’t get along well with others.’
Another user said, “That’s so disgusting and unsanitary. Yes, the air is filtered, but it remains polluted.’
Someone else wrote: “Disgusting people.”
‘That’s disgusting. Righteous parents make things worse for everyone around them,” one person wrote.
The ordeal is the latest in a series of debates over aircraft etiquette.
Many have caused an uproar after sharing the position on switching airplane seats.
Recently, Audrey Peters, 25, took to TikTok to share her dismay at being asked to move to a middle seat so a family can sit together.
The social media star, who is from Miami but currently lives in New York City, laughed off the request, saying they should have booked their flight earlier.
Her reaction caused the internet to spin as the chair swap continued to divide the internet.
In the past, Jaci Stephen of DailyMail.com even voiced her opinion, confessing that she “absolutely refuses” to switch seats, no matter how angry the passenger requesting the transfer may get.
