Emergency services were called to Trees Road in Tallebudgera on the Gold Coast at around 12pm on Wednesday after reports of shots fired.
A woman, 33, who had been sitting in the passenger seat of a blue Volkswagen Jetta outside a house, was treated for life-threatening injuries before being taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
Dozens of police and forensic officers were seen examining the crime scene and interviewing residents as detectives launched a major investigation.
Images from the scene showed at least five police vehicles parked in front of the home.
No arrests or charges have been filed and the firearm used has yet to be located by police.
It is understood At that time, the woman belonged to a group of people who were helping someone move.

“We have called in the homicide squad because the victim’s injuries are critical and we don’t know at this point if she will survive or not.”
Before the shooting, dozens of people had visited the home to pick up furniture advertised on Facebook Marketplace.
At least ten people helped the police in their investigation on Wednesday.
It is believed there was another person in the Volkswagen Jetta at the time of the incident.
Police suspect the shots were fired from inside the car.
“At this time we do not know who the shooter is. There were several people at the address collecting property,” Inspector Mooney said.
“Our forensic examination of the vehicle is still ongoing, but it appears the victim may have been sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle and was shot through the seat.”

‘It will be a complex investigation.’
He emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the population.
A Queensland Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday evening that there had been no further updates.

The incident also sent shockwaves through the community.
‘A police van came screaming past us. I scared the beesus [sic] from all of us,” one local posted online.
Another said: ‘It doesn’t sound good at all.’
