Woman shares risqué way that she knew her boyfriend was waking from coma
Romance isn’t dead, not even in a coma.
A woman has described the incredible moment she knew her boyfriend had woken up from a coma – when he reached into her shirt and unhooked her bra.
Kath Smith, 32, from Canada, shares her boyfriend Ben’s dramatic story on TikTok.
She explained that Ben was in a coma for almost a week after suffering a traumatic brain injury during a brutal robbery while on holiday in England six years ago.
She recently described the daring way doctors determined Ben woke from the coma.
As Ben began to come out of his comatose state, Kath said he began making reactive movements while still unconscious.
‘I’d hold his hand, he’d squeeze my hand, she explained. ‘[The medical staff said] it has to be a deliberate movement.”
When he started rubbing her back with his hand, Kath added that she was sure this was an intentional movement, but the doctors were still not convinced.

“They said, ‘No, that’s still reactive,’” she recalled.
However, then he made a movement that made it clear that he was indeed waking up.
“Then he put his hand under my shirt, the man was untied by a bra in his coma,” she revealed.
“I was just there, stunned,” she continued, adding that the nurses told her not to move.
“They bought into the doctor, and the doctor said, ‘I’m going to argue that this was intentional.’ That’s how we knew Ben woke up from his coma.’
Kath said Ben finds the story embarrassing, and she often jokes that it is his “true nature.”
‘[The nurses] cried afterwards too. What a mixture of emotions,” she added in response.

“Ben, a man with a clear vision of his goals,” one user joked in the comments section.
‘Why does this feel like ultimate Ben vibes? Even in a coma he shows his love and affection for you,” said another.
“Okay but he should NOT be ashamed, this is iconic,” someone else agreed.
‘This made me laugh so hard. Thanks,” another person commented sweetly.
In a previous video, Kath shared the story of Ben’s tragic accident, which led to him being hospitalized for over four years and undergoing 66 reconstructive operations after he was brutally attacked while on holiday in England.
He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and initially doctors said it was unlikely he would survive the night.
Kath rushed from her home in Canada to Britain to be with him, and after a week in a coma, Ben began to wake up.
Initially, he was non-verbal and required 24-hour care in the intensive care unit.
When he was well enough, they bought him back to Canada, where he tried to regain his speech the following year.
“He continued to make progress, and slowly but surely, after three years, he started learning to walk again,” she said.
Ben was eventually discharged from hospital in 2023 and has continued patient therapy.
“There is no doubt that these years have changed us,” Kath wrote in a video. “In both positive and negative ways, but we’re both doing our best to get through the trauma of it all.”
