Morven Caesar, 21, from Canada went viral on TikTok after sharing a classic conditioning trick to make sure your ex never forgets you
Morven stitched a video of TikTok star Dan Hentschel claiming he conditions his partners to associate the smell of extinguished birthday candles with their relationship
“Let’s talk classical conditioning of your romantic partner,” she began.
“While deliberately conditioning your romantic partner to blow out birthday candles with you is surprisingly toxic, there’s a much more common way it’s done.”
The psychology major explained that when you get into a new relationship, you should pick a signature scent and stick with it.
“Your body wash, your candles, your perfume should all match a cohesive scent,” she said. “And then when the relationship ends, you can change your scent…
“But for your ex-partner, that scent will be ruined, and when they smell it on another girl, if they ever just smell it, they’ll think of you.”
Morven warned that this trick is ‘definitely manipulative and poisonous’.
“Going into a relationship thinking about how you’re going to get the upper hand when the relationship ends may not be the healthiest,” she said, “but it’s also very effective.”
“Have you ever done this or think it happened to you!?” she asks in the caption.

If you and your partner break up, that smell will ruin them and always remind them of you, according to Morven

Many people have noted that they have had exes who associate them with a particular smell, even if it was not their intention.
‘I did it by accident and never realized it until I saw my ex and he said my car smells just like me/my perfume. I never realized, he remembered,” one person replied.
“My ex tells me when he smells Dark Kiss by Bath & Body or Coco Chanel he remembers me,” added another.
“I can never smell Sweet Pea out of bath and bodywork without thinking of her,” someone else shared.
One TikTok user also noted that the trick can backfire and make you think of your ex.
‘Okay but I already do this because I only like certain smells… but then when I smell old scents I ALSO GET MEMORIES,’ explains the person.
