The debate over airline etiquette has reignited after an airline passenger recounted how she refused to give up her window seat to lie down for a 15-hour flight.
TikToker @mewhiskers123 from Montana posted a six-second clip of her sitting on three chairs, toes wiggling and her eye mask pushed up to reveal a smile on her face.
The caption reads, “No one is in my line and someone asked to be seated by the window and I politely declined because I don’t owe anyone anything and I also deserve to be comfortable on my 15 hour flight.”
In just five days, TikTok has been viewed more than 5.7 million times, with the majority of commenters supporting @mewhiskers123’s actions.

Creator @ToniSmith wrote, ‘I will never give up a window seat LMAO.’
Another user commented, “I don’t get out of my window seat for anyone. My anxiety needs to know we’re still in the sky. I need to look at the sky.”
Many people said that the person who asked @mewhiskers123 for the window seat should have paid for it in advance instead of asking for it.
Some viewers took the time to share their own airplane seat horror stories.
@KellyHwang revealed: ‘I had a four-seater row to myself and I had a lady take one of the seats. She lay down * put her head ON MY BADGE AND SLEEP THE WHOLE FLIGHT.”
While @MissVictoriaa_ shared a similar nightmare scenario, writing, “I refused and this woman fought me to get the line.”
Another revealed that her own chair debacle had a more positive outcome.
She wrote, “A lady took my seat and I was too shy to ask her to move, so I went to the flight attendant and said it was all full, so they put me in first class.”

TikToker Audrey Peters, 25, recently shared her thoughts on switching seats, echoing similar sentiments as @mewhiskers123.
She said she was asked to move to a middle seat so a family can sit together.
However, the social media star, who is from Miami but currently lives in New York City, laughed off the request, saying they should have booked their flight earlier.
In the six-second clip, Audrey appears to be in first class with a glass of champagne in hand as she flies to Paris — though she noted on her Instagram Stories that this wasn’t the flight she was asked to switch seats on.

Audrey took to Instagram a short time later and revealed she flew business class from New York to Paris.
And, with tickets averaging $10,000, she said she used her American Express platinum points to cover the cost.
As with @mewhiskers123’s clip, Audrey’s post once again opened the floodgates for fierce discussion in the comments about airplane etiquette.
