A hero hotel worker made a desperate attempt to save the life of an alleged stabbing victim on Friday before she died in hospital.

The night shift manager at the Doubletree Hilton in Darwin assisted a heavily bleeding woman, believed to be around 50, who waited with her for an ambulance to arrive.

The woman, who was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, was in the Northern Territory town to visit her son in prison.

She had driven into the hotel’s ground floor reception after allegedly stabbing across the road on The Esplanade at 6pm Friday, NT police said.

A man was arrested at the scene and is in custody.

The woman was visiting her son in prison, her brother said NT News.

The Esplanade remains closed, with several police cars and police tape across the street.

Hours before the attack, NT Deputy Prime Minister Nicole Manison had spoken to more than 100 guests and foreign dignitaries at a Minerals Club event at the Doubletree Hilton ballroom.

Police are also investigating an unrelated aggravated assault at the Casuarina mall.

A 22-year-old woman is still in custody for allegedly stabbing two people after an argument in the underground car park.

Paramedics treated a 41-year-old man at the scene for injuries to his leg, and the 29-year-old woman was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to her back.

Another man has also been arrested after allegedly slashing the tires of a police car.

The man was drinking alcohol in a public place when police approached him and the alcohol was subsequently destroyed.

Members continued their patrols when the man approached the police vehicle and slashed both rear tires rendering the vehicle useless.
