A woman has warned anyone who wears a sanitary pad and uses a heated blanket after an unfortunate accident.
TikTok user Hannah Davies recently reshared the video after it originally went viral in 2023.
In the video, she explained that she was getting ready for the office Christmas party, sitting on a heated blanket to keep warm, when she realized the heat from the blanket had melted the sanitary pads.
In the clip, she told the story of an unfortunate evening and issued a warning.
“The highest setting on your electric blanket is hot enough to melt the plastic in your sanitary pads,” she said.
“Don’t ask me how I know that, because I’d rather not share that story,” she joked.
At the time, the Birmingham woman gave an interview describing what happened and explaining that the blanket was on the highest setting.
‘Ours has three settings, so you wouldn’t think it would be that high. They are beautiful, I love them. Of course, I didn’t think it was as hot as it was,” she said.

Hannah said the part of the pad that sticks to the underwear had melted into it after she sat on the blanket.
“Luckily I don’t love me,” she assured viewers. “Everyone on TikTok was like, ‘I bet that hurt.’ I bet you’re burnt and waxed and all.”
She added that the “biggest causality” was her underwear.
“They were my favorite period pants, gone forever,” she said. “The comfortable ones you have, especially for when you’re in pain.”
Hannah admitted she felt “a bit of an idiot” for not thinking about the heat-melting plastic, adding that her boyfriend wasn’t surprised when she told him.
‘I thought: I don’t have that. I can’t be the only one,” she stated. “So if I put it on TikTok, other people will be shocked and I can prove that I’m not an idiot.”
Users flooded the comments section of the reposted video with their thoughts, with many pointing out the dangers of sleeping with a heated blanket on.
‘If you want a more useful fact, you should preheat the bed with the blanket and then turn it off. You should NEVER sleep with an electric blanket on,” one user criticizes.

“I was literally laying in bed with my electric blanket with a sanitary pad on it girl,” another wrote.
‘EXTRA PSA, the highest heat setting may also be hotter than 130F which is the recommended maximum heat against the skin which can lead to burns!!!’ another urged.
‘This is also something to take into account with period trousers! Where it is recommended not to put them in the dryer or use heat on them, electric blankets can render menstrual pants unusable,” said another.
When the weather gets colder, many people turn to heated blankets for comfort and warmth.
However, a doctor warns that a winter product can lead to permanent skin damage.
Dr. Heather Kornmehl, a dermatologist from Texas, told her 106,000 followers in a TikTok that heated blankets can cause an irreversible rash known as erythema ab igne (derived from Latin and translated as “redness by fire”).
The rash is caused by prolonged use of heat directly on the skin. It leads to a red or brown rash with a distinct net-like pattern, as well as itching.
It can happen to anyone exposed to chronic low heat, such as a heated blanket, but also from using a hot water bottle, resting a laptop on your legs or leaning against a radiator.
The heat is usually not enough to cause burns, but it is enough to damage or cause changes to the superficial blood vessels under the skin, as well as the skin’s collagen and elastin protein fibers, leading to the striking appearance and discoloration .
