Woman in her 50s is found dead in a Sydney home after a desperate call for help – while a man is rushed to hospital under police guard

A woman has been found dead in a Sydney home, while a man has been taken to hospital under police guard.

Emergency services were called to a house in Alice Street, Rooty Hill in the west of the city at 8.15pm on Tuesday due to concerns over women’s welfare.

Officers rushed to the scene, but the woman had already died of “significant injuries.”

She has yet to be formally identified.

A 50-year-old man known to the woman was found with injuries to his throat and arms.

He was taken to Westmead Hospital under police guard. He will have surgery on Wednesday.

“A crime scene has been established and the investigation into the circumstances of the incident is continuing,” a NSW police statement said.

Forensic police spent the night searching the crime scene for evidence as detectives scramble to determine what happened.

Police will remain at the scene Wednesday morning.
