Bridget Stangland, 31, from Nashville, Tennessee, went viral after sharing her 'no booze method for a week' on TikTok

“The one week no drinking method involves not drinking alcohol for a week every month, and at the end of the year it results in three months of not drinking,” she explained.

'For those who want to take it a bit further, you can do that for two weeks a month, and at the end of the year that will result in six months of not drinking. That's six months.'

Stangland began to embrace week-long periods of sobriety because she realized that as she got older, there were so many occasions when she drank alcohol unnecessarily.

'I realized that having it all the time doesn't help me. And I like breaks. I feel great when I take breaks. I don't have brain fog. I sleep well. My skin looks better,” she said.

“I thought, why don't we create a small change that will have this big impact?” So I picked up something that felt easy for me, which was a week, and went from there.

'Sometimes I go longer every month; sometimes I just do that one week. It really all depends on how I feel and the things that are happening in my life.”

Stangland explained that she wanted to share her one-week-without-booze method because she had never heard of anyone doing something like that in her 20s.

“It was always very black and white,” she remembers. 'It was drink or don't drink at all.

“I wanted to share something…where you can create healthy habits that don't have to be so drastic. You see how you feel and then chase the good feelings.”

Fans of the method share their results with Stangland, saying they've lost weight, reduced anxiety and saved money

Stangland noted that the method is intended for someone who simply wants to incorporate a new healthy habit into their lifestyle – and not for someone dealing with substance abuse.

'This advice is not intended for people who are overly dependent on alcohol, or addicted in any way. “I'm not a medical professional, just a 30-something who found this healthy habit worked and wanted to share it with others,” she told DailyMail.com.

However, Stangland has had fans who quit drinking for a week and became inspired to go even longer without booze.

'I've had followers who started with one week and have now been alcohol-free for nine months. I let people go for 100 days,” she explained in her video.

Others reported losing weight and saving hundreds of dollars by temporarily quitting drinking.

Stangland posted some comments from her fans in another clip to show the incredible results people have seen since adopting the method.

“I tried no alcohol for a week and now I'm at 9 months without alcohol,” one person responded.

'I haven't had any alcohol in two weeks and I feel great!' someone else gushed. 'In two weeks I'm going to another fitness retreat in AZ.

“(I) saved at least $300 by not drinking and lost 8 pounds,” another added.

With the holidays and dinner parties in full swing this month, Stangland recently shared her tips for not drinking in social situations

Stangland said she likes to order bitters and soda when she isn't drinking alcohol because it resembles a cocktail. She also focuses on what she gains by not sucking up

With the holidays and dinner parties in full swing this month, Stangland was also inspired to share her top three tips for not drinking in social situations.

“Social situations are extremely challenging,” she said in the clip. “I think this is what a lot of people get nervous and afraid of when they do the one-week no-drink method.”

She admitted that she doesn't like to draw attention to the fact that she doesn't drink because she doesn't want people to ask why she's abstaining.

“A lot of my friends know this method now because I shared it with them, so they just realize now, 'Oh, she has a week off,'” she explained.

“But in the beginning, if I didn't share it with people, I would get bitters and soda. Last week I was at a birthday party and I kept ordering bitters and soda, and it looks like a cocktail.”

Stangland also recommended focusing on what you stand to gain from not having cocktails or glasses of wine to avoid giving in to temptation.

“I always say, 'Oh my gosh, I get to go to this social event, be super present, and then I get to go home and go to bed and sleep great because I don't have any alcohol in my system.' “'

Her final piece of advice was to “do what you have to do” – even if it means telling “a little white lie.”

Stangland said there's no harm in claiming you're taking antibiotics or feeling unwell if you're pressured to drink at a social event.
