Woman fixes her partner’s awkward habit while traveling – but shocked viewers claim the behavior is a telltale sign of a narcissist
- The traveler’s friend walks ahead of her
- Some say it is a sign of narcissism
A traveler has poked fun at her friend for always walking a few steps ahead of her on vacation – but some say it’s a sign of something more ominous.
Giulia is traveling through Europe with a friend and said she wasn’t sure if he is getting ahead of her because he is a “strong leader” or doesn’t like her company.
Thousands thought Giuila’s friend’s walking habits were an amusing oddity and accused her of being a “slow walker,” but others had a different theory.
Some pointed out that being far ahead could be a sign that someone is a narcissist, sparking a heated debate.
“If you’re not sure if your friend is trying to be a strong leader or can’t travel with you,” Giulia joked in a TikTok clamp.

A traveler has left thousands of stitches after joking about her friend who always walks a few steps ahead of her – but some say it could be a sign of a narcissist
She showed a montage of her mate walking yards ahead of her in airports and on the streets as they explored Rome and the Amalfi Coast.
“Excuse me, where are you going?” she captioned the video which quickly gained 493,000 views.
Many said they have friends and family who do the same, while preferring a more relaxed pace while on vacation.
“There are those who walk for leisure and there are those who walk for transportation,” laughed one viewer.
“Dude, my mom licks me in every city we’ve been to. It’s not my fault I walk slowly, I have a small instep,” another wrote.
Others saw a more serious side to the man not walking near his traveling companion and argued that this could be a sign that he might have narcissistic tendencies.
“It means they don’t like you when they walk like that. Let them go,” said one user.
“Seeing this video after the ‘narcissists lead the way’ video,” wrote a second.
The theory is a hot topic circulating on social media.
Danish Basir is a “narcissism abuse coach” and said there are three reasons why narcissists get ahead of someone.
“Number one, narcissists have diminished or missing empathy, so emotional attachment bonds aren’t really possible and that’s why they get ahead of the group or the person they’re with,” he explained in an online video.
Second, Danish said narcissists are leading the way to “demonstrate dominance.”
“In a normal healthy relationship, partners go together as equals and as two individuals with mutual respect. In contrast, narcissists walk ahead of you to disempower and neglect you,” he said.
“Running ahead can also indicate that the narcissist is pulling away from you.”
Danish said walking next to someone is a sign of “unconscious acceptance and compromise” where both people find a pace that suits each other.
“But narcissists don’t compromise with anyone at all costs, especially their significant others.”
However, many hit back saying that there are many reasons why someone is in the lead, which does not mean they are narcissistic.
Some said they can’t stand or struggle to walk slowly with one comment, “I have to concentrate to walk slowly, it doesn’t feel natural to me.”
“Me if you walk slowly. I love you, but my legs can’t move that slow,’ said a second, and someone agreed, ‘you walk slowly, I want to get to the places quickly’.
“I just have a lot of energy when I sometimes walk and air out a lot and forget I have to wait,” added another.
