A woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed during a carjacking in far north Queensland.
The female driver, in her 50s, was knifed when her car was stolen in Mighel, south of Innisfail, at around 4.15pm. She then ran to a nearby house for help.
Police found her with several stab wounds to her torso.
The stolen car crashed a short time later on the Bruce Highway near Sandy Pocket, Queensland police said.
A man was arrested following a police investigation in the area.
A police spokesperson said: ‘Residents are still urged to avoid the area while investigations into what happened continue. The highway remains closed. There is no further threat to public safety.”
