A woman who dumped her ‘drunk’ husband at the airport – after he was banned from boarding a plane because he was too drunk – has defended her decision to go on holiday without him.
The anonymous traveler took to Reddit to talk about a recent incident where her husband was banned from a flight after spending some time at the airport having a drink before she arrived.
“AITA because I didn’t leave with my husband after he was sent off for being too drunk?” the woman, 28, wrote on the site’s infamous r/AmItheA**hole forum about her husband, ‘Adam’, 30.
She went on to describe how they are both of the same ethnicity and share a “homeland” – although she speaks their native language much better than Adam.
Adam’s grandparents were the first to travel to their current country, so he has more family where they currently live.
A woman took to Reddit’s r/AmItheA**hole forum after her husband got too drunk to board a plane on the way to see her dad — and she left him at the airport instead of staying behind
“My home country is far away so tickets are expensive and I took time off work for the trip so I’m not going away with Adam,” she reasoned for leaving him behind
As a result, the woman feels like she has become “close” to his family since they started dating, and has made the “effort” with his family to become so.
Meanwhile, the woman’s parents divorced, and when she and Adam started dating, her father moved back to their home country.
What makes it even more difficult is that her father “disapproves of Adam.”
She has further “had arguments with Adam in the past about how I feel like I’ve made more of an effort for his family, and he hasn’t done the same for me.”
Adam’s lack of fluency in her parents’ native language also posed a barrier for him to connect with the female side of the family.
“It became more apparent when my dad came to stay with us, but in the run-up to the wedding my dad stayed with us and we were fine,” she added.
Either way, there was clearly a lot involved in the trip she had planned with Adam to visit her father in their native country.
Although Adam had agreed to come, he did so reluctantly.
Commenters overwhelmingly agreed that the woman was NTA – short for Not The A**hole
‘I have planned a trip to my home country to surprise my father and asked Adam to come too.
‘He agreed and then refused when I said we would be staying with my dad and made a joke about me having to drink before meeting him. “I didn’t think it was funny and Adam later apologized,” she said.
But apparently Adam wasn’t really joking.
On the day of their flight, Adam had gone to the airport in advance to check their bags, while the woman was waiting for him there.
To her horror, she had discovered that Adam had been punched, so much so that the flight attendant wouldn’t let him on the plane.
She then called her brother-in-law to take care of him, and also left the brother-in-law’s cell phone with the flight attendant just to be safe.
And with that, she began her journey to see her father solo.
“My home country is far away so tickets are expensive and I took time off work for the trip so I’m not going with Adam,” she reasoned.
But Adam still felt hurt by the move.
“Adam is angry with me now and says I left him in a situation where he was drunk and if the tables were turned he would never have left me alone when I was drunk, but I don’t think that’s fair,” she further concluded. asking if she was the hole in the situation.
Commentators rated her NTA almost unanimously – short for Not The A**hole.”
‘NTA. This man deliberately tried to ruin your time with your father because your father does not think highly of him. Let me guess, your father noticed that Adam was immature, spiteful, selfish, and ill-mannered.
“You have to ask yourself what someone brings to the table who would do this despite you and why you stay with him,” one person wrote.
A second replied: ‘Bingo. A very clumsy attempt at sabotage. N.T.A.’
“Adam is a grown adult who made a bad decision. Adam has to deal with the consequences, and if that means being left behind, so be it. Maybe the next time you and Adam plan a flight together, he’ll show up sober and you can enjoy your trip together. NTA,” a third said matter-of-factly.
“NTA… Dude made a conscious decision to get drunk. I’m sure if he suddenly got so sick that he couldn’t fly, you would have stayed with him. But this isn’t something that just happened to him, or something you did to him. He decided to do this to himself and had no one else to blame. Enjoy your visit with your father!’ echoed a fourth.
‘Nta. if he accidentally gets too drunk at age 30 before taking a plane, he’s in trouble. if he did it on purpose, he’s a problem. Anyway, letting him disrupt your life so you can pamper his drunken ass won’t solve anything,” said yet another.
