An Irish woman has died after falling from a height of 150 meters while her boyfriend grabbed onto a bush-covered rock to save himself at a popular rock climbing spot.

The woman died after falling from the infamous Caminito del Rey trail, near the village of El Chorro in Malaga.

Her body was recovered by emergency services just after 7 p.m. on Friday evening.

Her male companion cheated death by grabbing onto a bush-covered rock that jutted out as he fell next to his friend. He was said to be in shock when he was rescued.

The climbers were in the Swiss sector of the popular rock climbing spot, next to a hiking area called the Arabian Stairs, when the incident occurred.

It is believed the pair had been exercising all day and the fall occurred when they descended and took the wrong route.

According to police, the survivors said they lost their balance and fell over the edge of a ravine.

The Guardia Civil, the police investigating the incident, confirmed on Saturday afternoon that she is an Irish national.

On December 11, a 20-year-old man fell and hurt himself in an area known as Puente del Mono, which translates in English as Monkey Bridge, close to the village of El Chorro.

He was knocked unconscious and had gone into cardiac arrest by the time first responders arrived.

The man was pronounced dead after the helicopter rescue.

After last month’s fall, a Civil Guard spokesperson said: ‘Members of the Civil Guard Greim specialist mountain rescue team, based in Alora near Malaga, supported by a Civil Guard helicopter in Granada, recovered the body of a young British man. man saved.

‘He had fallen while crossing a via ferrata in the area known as Monkey Bridge, near El Chorro.

‘When officers reached the man, he was in cardiac arrest.

“Despite practicing CPR on him and quickly evacuating him by helicopter to a nearby heliport where medical services were waiting, they could only confirm his death.”
