A 41-year-old Canadian woman died after a tummy tuck in Columbia where she “began to expel large amounts of blood.”

Luz Deicy Vélez Estrada traveled from her home in Montreal, Canada, on March 8 to have the surgery and skin-tightening surgery in the Colombian capital Bogotá, but fell violently ill later that evening and died at a local hospital.

“After living in Canada for 15 years, Luz traveled to Colombia to have surgery with a person she found on the Internet, called “The Doll Maker,” said her husband Félix Alejandro Aguirre, referring to the famous surgeon Yina Calderon.

Estrada paid 28 million Colombian pesos, or about $6,770, for the combination surgeries, which caused her death.

Aguierre told how his wife was taken to a wheelchair a few hours after surgery and was unable to speak because of the pain she was in.

The victim’s parents took her back to their home and helped her to bed.

A few minutes later, however, she had to go to the toilet and became seriously ill.

According to Aguierre, Luz then began expelling large amounts of blood until she finally passed out in the bathroom.

The Argentinian-Canadian widower added: ‘Her parents took her to the hospital as soon as possible.

“They managed to resuscitate her in the emergency room, but a few minutes later the doctor came out to announce she had died.”

To make matters worse, the grieving husband claimed Colombian authorities have yet to return his wife’s body for burial in the three months since she died on March 8.

He said, ‘I just want to know the truth about what happened that day.

“It’s been over three months and I still can’t take my wife home.

“What explanation do I give my children and family?”

Félix has appealed to the Canadian Embassy in Bogotá and the Colombian Embassy in Ottawa to help return his wife’s body to Montreal as soon as possible.

He also hopes that the involvement of the embassies will speed up the ongoing investigation.
