A woman has died after becoming entangled in a baggage carousel at an airport.
The Chicago Fire Department was called the city’s O’Hare Airport On Thursday morning at around 7:45 a.m., a report was made of a woman who was “trapped in a machine.”
Firefighters said she was stuck in the conveyor belt at Terminal 5. Paramedics confirmed the 57-year-old woman had died at the scene.
According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor, the woman did not work at the airport.
Chicago police said surveillance footage showed her entering the employee-only area just before 2:30 a.m., but her body wasn’t found until five hours later.

The area has now been declared a crime scene and turned over to Chicago Police Department detectives, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Authorities say the area of the airport where the woman entered is employee-only and is considered safe, but not a high-security area, ABC 7 reported.
This section of the international terminal is filled with conveyor belts that move luggage to and from aircraft. Bags in this area also go through customs.
Police have not disclosed whether they were able to trace the woman’s movements after she entered the restricted area.
Around 9:00 am, many emergency services were present at the airport.
The woman’s identity has not been released, nor is it clear where she lived or why she was at the airport.
