The Forensic Crash Unit has launched an investigation after two vehicles collided in Kalkie on Friday evening around 8.20pm.

Initial investigations indicate a Mazda CX-8 crashed into a Nissan Pathfinder on Fe Walker Street.

A 57-year-old Bargara woman from the Mazda suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 63-year-old man, a 30-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman – all occupants of the Mazda from Bargara – were seriously injured.

They were all rushed to hospital, along with the 46-year-old male Nissan driver from Norville, who also suffered serious injuries.

The investigation continues and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
