Woman is charged after allegedly trying to drown two children by throwing them from a bridge and into a river at Liverpool

A woman has been charged after attempting to drown two children more than a year ago.

Following reports of welfare concerns, emergency services were called to Riverpark Drive in Liverpool, south-west Sydney, at around 10.30am on September 11, 2023.

Police discovered a woman had fallen from the Light Horse Bridge into the Georges River.

The 36-year-old was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital in a critical condition.

At around 12.50pm on the same day, emergency services were called to the Georges River near Riverpark Drive in Liverpool after reports of two children in the water.

“Officers attended and were advised that two girls – aged seven and eight – had been rescued from the river by a passerby,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

The two girls were treated at the scene by ambulance personnel and taken to hospital for further examination.

A crime scene has been established and police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Following reports of welfare benefits, police discovered on September 11, 2023 that a woman had fallen from the Light Horse Bridge (pictured) in Liverpool.

On Wednesday morning, the now 37-year-old woman was released from hospital after a stay in a mental health facility.

After extensive investigation, detectives arrested the woman.

She was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with two counts of attempting to drown a person with intent to kill him.

Police will allege the woman threw the two girls into the water and then fell off the bridge.

The woman was refused bail and appeared in court on Wednesday.
