An airline passenger has filmed the moment she confronted a “racist” man after she caught him texting a complaint to his family about a member of his travel party having to sit “next to a huge black woman.”

Content creator Taila Rouse describes the incident that unfolded this week during a four-hour flight from Puerto Rico to Atlanta on TikTok in a series of videos.

“POV: You decided to confront the racist sitting next to you on your flight,” reads the overlay text on one of Taila’s videos.

“You know what I wasn’t about to say anything… but I decided I want you to feel as uncomfortable as I do, and I want you to know that I’ve seen your texts and I think that you are disgusting,’ Taila is heard saying to the unknown passenger.

Taila Rouse was on a flight from Atlanta to Puerto Rico when she confronted a man sitting next to her about his racist lyrics

“What text message,” the passenger responds.

“You know exactly what I’m talking about. I’m not going to repeat it because not everyone needs to know, but I want you to know that I know I’ve seen you and I think you’re disgusting. You have nothing to say to that, do you?’ she replies.

Taila adds, “Yeah, I didn’t think so… and if we’re talking about airlines ripping people off, maybe if they raise prices…”

The passenger is then heard to say, “I’m sorry,” but Taila is having none of it.

“You don’t have to be sorry about me, you’re sorry because I saw it,” she claps back.

Taila said in a later TikTok that she was “literally going back and forth” with herself deciding whether to say something or not, adding that her blood was “boiling” and she was “fuming.”

A TikTok user praised the creator for calling out the passenger.

“I’m proud of you and don’t even know you. I know going back and forth with yourself on this was hard and you did,” they commented.

Sitting next to a racist on my four-hour flight from Puerto Rico to Atlanta this week. Yes, I could have mind my own business, but why let him slide? I happened to look over and saw the words “big black woman” so I continued reading. He and his family went on and on about the misery of being trapped next to black and gay people. Then I see this guy say he hopes airlines keep raising prices so these people get kicked out. If you’re bold enough to pull out your phone in the middle seat of an airplane and talk disrespectfully about black people, I’m bold enough to say something to you. What would you have done? #travel tiktok #racistoftheday #racistcounter #aircraft drama #travelwhileblack #blacktravelfeed

Taila also shared a video of the man texting on his phone before zooming in on the content of the messages.

“We’re still in the gangway. Hopefully the airlines will continue to raise prices and weed out these people. Ryan is sitting next to a huge black woman,” the texts read.

The caption to Taila’s video reads, “I started recording after reading more than one racist/homophobic comment… At that point, the lyrics were mine.”

Another TikTok user asked, “How was the rest of the flight?” Did he try to switch seats?’

Taila said they sat next to each other for the next four hours and showed the man with his back to her.

“He wouldn’t even think my way when the plane landed,” she joked.
