Woman called off her wedding with her college sweetheart to find love with a man 24-years her senior

A woman called off her wedding to her college boyfriend to find love with a man 24 years her senior, the same age as her mother, and now they’re expecting a baby.

Amanda Cannon, 30, of Moresville, North Carolina, had a strong feeling she couldn’t be with her ex and called off their wedding, just days before it was to take place.

Amanda embarked on a journey of self-discovery as a single woman and ended up falling in love at first sight with Ace, 54, a radio DJ, in the summer of 2017.

Despite Ace vowing never to marry again, the lovers tied the knot in January 2021 and the couple is expecting a baby boy, due in June 2023.

Ace said: ‘I was 30 with my first child and I’ll be 55 when this one is born. I am much wiser and I think that he will play in my favor.

Amanda met Ace unexpectedly when she was newly single after calling off their wedding in April 2017.

She said: ‘In my last relationship I was not myself, I constantly felt defeated and exhausted.

I called off the wedding because deep inside I knew I had to.

Amanda, a personal trainer, said: ‘Not all age gap relationships are predatory, I reached out to him.

‘Love is love, you can love someone much older or much younger. Maybe our souls met in a different time.

I knew who it was, I went up to the bar and introduced myself.

“We exchanged numbers and hit it off, we were instantly drawn to each other.”

Ace said: ‘I had been divorced for a while, I lived alone in this apartment.

Amanda met Ace unexpectedly when she was newly single after calling off their wedding in April 2017.

The 30-year-old said some people have accused her of being a ‘gold digger’ because of her age difference with her husband, but she doesn’t care.

Meanwhile, Ace said that he “never in his wildest dreams” believed that someone as beautiful as Amanda could be interested in him.

“I was sitting alone eating fish tacos, and she came over and introduced herself.

“Obviously I was instantly drawn to her beauty, but I knew there was a big age difference.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think that someone so beautiful would be interested in me.”

The duo decided to enjoy each other over a summer of good fun, but couldn’t bear to end things and their relationship was made official.

“When you’re dating an older man, in his late 50s, saying he had a girlfriend was kind of weird, so we’d say we were each other’s partners,” Amanda said.

Amanda attributes Ace’s confidence and humility to his advanced age, stating that younger children are “immature” and “tend to be female ghosts”.

Ace is the same age as Amanda’s mother, who is 54 years old. The pair are often mistaken for father and daughter, but find it entertaining.

Ace said, ‘Amanda was only seven years older than my daughter.

Our differences became more fun than anything else – she was educating me on things I didn’t know.

‘One time we went to a baseball game and someone wanted a picture with me.

The couple eloped in an intimate ceremony on a Jamaican beach with their close family, and Ace went on to have his vasectomy reversed.

Amanda attributes Ace’s confidence and humility to his advanced age, stating that younger children are “immature” and “tend to be ghost women”.

Ace said that he is excited to be a father for the third time and that he is not worried about being older this time.

“She was a listener to my radio show and she was like, ‘Oh my gosh, is that Payton?’ -my daughter- she was so embarrassed when I told her she was my date.

“His partner came up and punched me.”

Strangers online have also accused Amanda of being a ‘gold digger’ and claim her baby will ‘have something wrong with her’ due to Ace’s age.

Amanda said: “It’s completely false, but 90 percent of the feedback we get is positive.”

In February 2020, Ace proposed to Amanda at a restaurant just outside the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, USA, after playing a song he had written for her through his headphones.

Amanda said: ‘She put the headphones on saying ‘I want you to listen to this’.

“Then he turned around on one knee and asked me to marry him.”

The couple eloped in an intimate ceremony on a Jamaican beach with their close family.

“I didn’t feel at all like I was making the wrong decision. I just had my gut telling me this is right,” Amanda said.

Since Ace had his vasectomy reversed, they are expecting a little boy in June 2023.

He is excited to be a father for the third time and is not worried about being older this time.

Ace said, ‘Amanda is such an energetic, active and busy person and that energy helps to energize me.’

Amanda added: ‘People make comments like he’s not around for the baby for a long time.

‘His parents were not promised forever, he could live to be 90 years old.

“I’m not worried that he’s an older parent, maybe he’s just taking more naps.”

Ace’s daughter Payton tragically passed away in July 2020 in a car accident.

“She and Amanda were so close, as heartbroken as I was, it didn’t make me not want to have kids again,” he said.

“Payton used to say, ‘You can have another child, as long as it’s not a girl,’ and Cade said, ‘Have another child, as long as it’s not a boy.'”

Amanda added, “I learned a lot about the death of Ace’s daughter, life is short and I don’t promise it to anyone.”

‘As long as you’re happy and no one is being hurt, it’s okay to live your life.

“Always listen to your gut, you don’t want to reach 90 and look back on your life thinking what if.”
