A makeup artist who was labeled ‘shovel-faced’ by school bullies because of her extreme underbite can now smile again thanks to grueling jaw surgery.

Jordan Davies’ lower jaw was so far forward that it left him with a prominent chin, and doctors warned that he might have difficulty eating.

Last March, Jordan, from Newport, south Wales, underwent a four-and-a-half-year operation in which his upper and lower jaws were broken, realigned and secured in place with metal plates and screws.

The 21-year-old now says she is more confident and can look in the mirror and feel happy with herself.

Jordan said: ‘As soon as [doctors] he told me i had a bite, it was in my head, like, “oh god i have this problem”, and then it got worse and worse.

‘I got feedback from people all the time. People called me “shovel face”, which sounds horrible, and I was bullied for it.

Jordan Davies, 21, from Newport, South Wales, claims she was bullied at school and branded a “shovel face” because of her extreme underbite; she then underwent double jaw surgery to correct it (pictured above)

I also hid it a lot. You cannot get carried away in public, you are always trying to hide it and hold your jaw.

He first heard about surgery to correct the problem at the age of 15 and has longed for it ever since.

Making plans for the operation, he spent three years with braces to straighten his teeth.

But while she waited, she would often ‘keep her jaw back’, posing in such a way that her prominent profile was less obvious.

After doctors explained that her underbite would only worsen and eventually make it difficult to eat, a self-conscious Jordan decided to have double jaw surgery in March 2022.

She says: ‘Surgery was always something I wanted to do because I was self-aware.

“I was nervous, but excited. She had been waiting for it for a long time and she just wanted to finish it.

“I never felt completely sure of myself because I always thought I couldn’t show it. [the underbite].

“The comments affected me, but I also wanted to have the surgery, because they said it was going to get worse and eating would become a struggle as well.”

Jordan (pictured before surgery) often used to hide his bite by pulling his jaw back. She says that she prevented her from enjoying socializing.

Jordan underwent the grueling surgery in South Wales after years of being bullied and self-conscious.

After surgery in March 2022, Jordan, who is a beauty connoisseur, was left with a bruised and swollen chin.

The operation lasted four and a half hours and involved both of Jordan’s jaws being broken and set back into place.

Jordan underwent the operation at The Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran, south Wales, and it left her with a swollen face.

She says: ‘At first I looked very swollen, but now everything is really positive.

“At first, I felt like this didn’t feel like me, but I think it’s just a process you have to go through.”

Ten months after the surgery, Jordan says she now feels confident enough to flash a big smile in public.

She added that now she feels like she can be herself and can look at her reflection in the mirror.

Now she also enjoys socializing with family and friends, something she didn’t do before.

She says: ‘It’s definitely been a confidence boost. Now I can go outside and smile with my teeth, which I have never been able to do before.

“I look in the mirror and I like what I see. It’s me, and it’s not. When you’ve looked at yourself for 21 years and then you look in the mirror [after surgery]is different.

‘People say I look great for it, and some say I look so much better for it. They are just very nice comments.

I can be myself. I felt like he was just holding back before, like he was hiding this insecurity.

‘But now I can go out and I can see my friends now without holding back.

‘I would definitely recommend this to other women who might feel the same way.’
