A woman has been bitten by a snake on a Sydney beach.

The woman, in her 30s, was walking in bushland next to Great Mackerel Beach in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park when she was bitten about 10.30am on Friday.

It is understood she stepped on the animal and caused it to bite her, 7News reported.

It’s unclear what species of snake bit the woman, but it was said to be “dark-colored,” suggesting it could be a deadly brown snake.

The woman was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital in a stable condition.
