emma said kidspot she had always known that Rob hated women who farted or belched, and during the nine years of their relationship she made a conscious effort never to do so in front of him.

She’s still trying to forget the night she accidentally ‘let one rip’ when she was falling asleep after eating too much pizza.

“Farting is the least feminine thing a woman can do, especially in front of her husband,” Rob told her after the incident.

Emma said that she and Rob share everything in their lives except farts, and that she learned about his hatred of pets when she heard her friend burp in the pub.

“He spent the whole hour walking home telling me what a disgusting and rude thing he did,” Emma said.

From that moment she was sure to ‘keep’ it around him, but she couldn’t control it one night.

‘Yeah, the worst case scenario of flatulence happened, I farted, and it wasn’t a small or harmless smelling one either. In fact, I would probably be embarrassed even if I was alone in the bathroom,” she said.

Rob looked at her with a horrified expression and told her she was ‘disgusting’.

Why farting in front of each other can be a sign of a good relationship

Marriage and family therapist Gary Brown said “it’s a healthy sign that you’re comfortable enough with each other to pass gas.”

Psychologist and sex therapist Shannon Chavez agrees, saying it’s also a sign of a better sex life.

“This couple is probably having great sex because they’re comfortable with their bodies and what they’re doing and are more likely to enjoy different types of stimulation and play with fewer inhibitions, fears and insecurities,” she said.

‘The more we can normalize him and not shame him, the better. It allows people to feel more open in dealing with changes in their bodies and less secrecy and shame, which can be isolating and embarrassing.’

Mr Brown said it’s a red flag and a sign of disrespect if your partner doesn’t make any effort to control you, walk away or say ‘sorry’.

Fountain: huff pole

Emma issued a slavish apology the next morning and begged her husband to forgive her, which she said he did, but she still feels his “disappointment”.

She said he constantly reminds her how disgusting she finds the habit of complaining when she sees it on a TV show or in a movie.

His friends are outraged by Rob’s behavior and can’t believe someone could be so upset about a natural bodily function.

However, Emma said she still feels conflicted and while she knows that farting is normal, she also respects how disgusting it seems to her husband and doesn’t want to disappoint him as he is “wonderful” in every other way.
