Woman is arrested after going to extreme lengths to ‘get out of date with man she met online’
One woman took her date’s “ghosting” a step further. She called 911 while he was standing outside her door and falsely reported that he was threatening her.
Sumaya Thomas, 18, of North Liberty, Iowa, reportedly got “cold feet” just before meeting a man she matched with on a dating app.
Instead of calling off the date altogether, she called the authorities just after midnight on June 16 and made up an outrageous story just to get him off her property.
Thomas made up a story and told authorities that the man on her doorstep was her abusive ex-boyfriend, by whom she was pregnant.
She further alleged that he threatened to hit, punch, kick and stab her via text message, according to a report declaration obtained by Law&Crime. She also claimed that she had known him for two years.

Instead of canceling the appointment altogether, she called authorities just after midnight on June 16 and made up an outrageous story just to get him off her property.
“She indicated that he threatened to harm her,” court documents said.
Police saw the man walking away from the location. He reportedly told them he had met Thomas a week earlier on a dating app. Their communication then went from the app to text messages.
To support his claims, the man presented the text conversation to officers, which they confirmed matched his story.
“The conversation revealed that he was being honest and that he had actually just met the woman,” court documents said.
When police questioned Thomas, officers said she claimed to have known the man for two years.
She also stated that she was pregnant with his child and that he abused her and refused to leave her alone.
After repeated questions, Thomas eventually confessed that she had “just gotten cold feet” and that she had made up the whole story because she had doubts about the date and just didn’t want to go through with it.
She also told the officers that she had faked the story because she didn’t think the officers would help her if she explained the real reason why she called them.
The unidentified man was held for more than an hour after Thomas made false accusations.
The woman was charged with two felonies: false reporting of a crime to a public authority and one count of false reporting – 911 call. She was released from the Johnson County Jail.
