A woman has revealed the breathtaking moment she discovered the man she had been dating for the past six weeks was already married.
Christina Gavin, 28, was left devastated after her mother ran a background check on her mystery man and discovered he had been married for nine years.
The California-based podcaster admitted that she “didn’t see any red flags during the first few dates,” but that changed around the fourth or fifth date.
After discovering the truth, she said, “It was a punch. I felt like I had lied to myself. I felt ashamed. I couldn’t believe I let myself get involved in this situation.’

While looking for love, Christina decided to use dating app Bumble to meet someone after spending most of her life single.
And just after her 27th birthday, the podcaster connected with a man on the platform and the two immediately hit it off.
With Christina’s history of hopeless dates, she was pleasantly surprised that her courter had put a lot of effort into their first night together and planned the whole thing.
Christina didn’t notice any warning signs during their first interaction and decided to continue seeing the mystery man as their relationship began to develop.
“I only had two or three nights a week where I could really hang out and he only made dates for those days, so that was a green flag for me,” she explained.
“I didn’t see any red flags on the first few dates.”
However, as time went on, Christina began to notice a few things that she thought seemed strange.
‘It wasn’t until the fourth or fifth day that I started to notice that some things weren’t right.’

Around this time, Christina started picking up little bits of information that didn’t quite add up.
First, she noticed that he was always covered in dog hair, despite not having a dog.
He also only went to her house, never revealed where he lived, and was always very careful about what he told her.
This raised some questions in her mind and she even considered doing a background check.
Finally she decided to have one of her friends take a look at it and at first glance everything was fine.
But then Christina’s mother got involved and eventually discovered the truth after discovering a lease agreement that had his name on it along with that of an unknown woman.
Using this information, the persistent mother found a wedding website, where she made the shocking discovery that her daughter’s new partner was already married.
“My mom is actually the one who did the background check and on the surface everything looks completely normal, with everything saying who he says he is – no arrest record, no criminal record,” Christina shared.
‘However, his rental contract listed two people with the same surname and I know that was not his sibling’s name.
‘My mother then started looking for his wedding website and that’s how we found out.
“I contacted his wife first to see if there was any strange circumstance. She confirmed that they were indeed still married and still living together,” Christina discovered
Christina has since moved on and has been in a happy relationship for the past year and marked the occasion by posing for a loved-up snapshot
‘I was sleeping. My mom kept calling and saying she really needed to talk to me.
‘At that time I said: I don’t care, let’s talk about it in the morning.
‘She then called me at five in the morning because she couldn’t sleep, and she told me he was married. I didn’t believe her at first.
“Then I racked my brain through all the interactions I’d had with him, and finally I was able to find his wife on Instagram, look at all her photos, and see pictures of them together.
“When he told me he was doing something, he did what he told me, but it happened to be with his wife and their dog.
“I contacted his wife first to see if there was any strange circumstance; they were divorced or something.
“She confirmed that they were indeed still married and still living together – no plans for divorce.”
She continued, “Then I confronted him. He actually said, “Oh, well, I’m getting a divorce,” and I said, “Well, that’s not what your wife has to say.”
‘He was also very nonchalant. I said, “You know, your wife deserves better. I deserve better.”
‘You could tell he had been confronted with this before and he didn’t care.
‘I was really worried that his wife would get angry with me, but she didn’t.
‘She was devastated. Her suspicions were true of what she had suspected for the past few years.”
Christina has since moved on and has been in a happy relationship for the past year.
She recently posted a loved-up snapshot with her new boyfriend, alongside a light-hearted caption that read: “Want to renew your subscription?”
