Wolves boss Gary O’Neil wants to sign at least one striker in January with West Ham forward Danny Ings and Southampton’s Che Adams still on their radar

Gary O’Neil wants to sign at least one striker this month as Wolves look to continue their promising campaign in Brighton on Monday evening.

After Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva left on loan, Wolves are lacking in attack, especially with top scorer Hwang Hee-chan in the Asian Cup with South Korea.

Matheus Cunha has been excellent this season, scoring six goals, but is not a natural number nine.

Wolves love Danny Ings but the former Southampton striker may not be allowed to leave West Ham, who are also depleted. Wolves chased Che Adams last summer and still admire the Southampton striker, but Saints are pushing for promotion and Adams has scored nine goals this season.

O’Neil’s first game in charge was a 4–1 home defeat to Brighton in August. His side have made strong progress since then as they eased their financial woes and are well ahead of O’Neil’s original goal of keeping Wolves in the Premier League.

“When you come up against a top coach or team it’s always good to see where we are and what we can achieve,” he said. “Going there will be a good test of our character.

“We are two clubs that made big profits on transfers in the summer, so it is impressive that they have been able to keep this up. It will be another tough test.

‘There were many chances for both teams in the first match. They are an incredibly well-coached team, with one of the best managers (Roberto De Zerbi).

“They’ve beaten some top teams, but we’re looking forward to it.”
