Belfort became known as the Wolf of Wall Street – a coined term – after he released his memoir after his time in prison.

The multimillionaire and former stockbroker, who made his millions by defrauding investors up to $200 million, pleaded guilty to securities fraud and money laundering in 1999 and was sentenced to four years in prison in 2003.

He served just 22 months at California’s Taft Correctional Institution and was personally fined $110 million.

His company Stratton Oakmont engaged in “pump-and-dump schemes” to artificially inflate the price of penny stocks. The company was shut down in 1996 after the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) consistently prosecuted them legally.

After his release, he embarked on a career as a writer and motivational speaker.

He has spoken in Australia before and is friends with billionaire James Packer, who has been seen on his yacht before.
