The head of the Woke teachers union, Randi Weingarten, has come under fire for retweeting a post that said “most parents don’t like culture wars”, despite spearheading divisive school policies across the country.
Weingarten’s policies, including promoting critical race theory in classrooms and enforcing strict pandemic rules, have drawn the ire of many parents in recent years.
His assertion that parents are not interested in “culture wars” debates was seen by many as an attempt to dismiss concerns raised by parents about their politicized stances.
American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, pictured, has come under fire for politicizing classroom politics in recent years.
The head of the teachers’ union sparked fury this week by saying that “most parents don’t like school culture wars.”
The union chief drew the ire of parents and activists this week after she tweeted a TIME article with the headline: “Poll: Most parents don’t like school culture wars.”
The poll referenced in the article was from Democratic pollster Hart Research Associates, which found that only one in five respondents felt that teachers promote awakening in classrooms.
The article also referenced findings that two-thirds of parents view the ‘culture wars’ as a distraction from education.
However, Weingarten’s use of the survey angered many, who feel that his draconian covid-19 policies, such as support for mandatory vaccinations and rampant school closures, were much more of a distraction to education than cultural debates.
“Then stop politicizing education,” said education activist Corey DeAngelis. ‘Parents don’t like how you fought to keep schools closed.’
The non-profit Americans for Public Trust said: ‘Most parents don’t like that I wrote the @CDC guidance that kept schools closed.
‘Maybe you should stay out of this.’
Parents’ rights activist Nicki Neily also responded: “Fact: Most parents don’t like teachers’ unions keeping their kids out of school.”
Weingarten earns more than $530,000 a year in her role, eight times the median salary of the 1.7 million PK-12 teachers she leads.
Education activist Corey DeAngelis and Mom’s for Liberty founder Tiffany Justice were among those who criticized Weingarten, with Justice calling her an arsonist posing as a firefighter.

Weingarten was appointed to her eighth term as president of the American Federation of Teachers last year.
She earns more than $530,000 a year in her position, eight times the average salary of the 1.7 million pre-K to 12th grade teachers she leads.
Weingarten has come under fire for supporting numerous public school policies that have angered parents, including strict enforcement of mask wearing in schools.
He even required in 2022 that mask policies only be lifted when “there is no transmission in schools.”
The union head rejected the reopening of schools after the pandemic, while many disagreed with her union’s support for Critical Race Theory in classroom curricula.
He also blamed politicians for turning America’s teachers into “social justice warriors” during a town hall with President Biden’s Secretary of Education last year.
“Very few teachers thought they were going to teach to be social justice warriors,” he said.
Weingarten then insisted that many teachers “cannot teach” certain subjects while acting as “mask cops” in the classroom.
Numerous parents and education activists criticized Weingarten’s tweet, with the Americans for Public Trust telling her to “stay out.”
Connor Boyack, president of the libertarian think tank Libertas, responded to her inflammatory tweet this week by pointing to the rapid rise of homeschooling in America.
In a podcast appearance with radio host Rick Smith in April, Weingarten came under fire again after commenting on Republican policies on CRT and gender identity issues.
‘This is propaganda, this is disinformation. This is how wars start,’ he said.
We are not indoctrinating. We are not preparing… What we are doing is making sure that we educate the children.
We keep them safe. We keep you welcome. And we teach them how to think, not what to think.
Connor Boyack, president of the libertarian think tank Libertas, responded to Weingarten’s inflammatory tweet this week blaming her for the rapid rise of homeschooling in the United States.
“Perhaps that’s why 60 percent of American parents now want alternatives to public school,” he said.
“It could also be one of the reasons why homeschooling has tripled in the United States.”
Mom’s for Liberty, a national education advocacy group, also responded by saying, “You started this Randi and now we’re going to finish it.”
Speaking to DailyMail.com last year, the group’s founder, Tiffany Justice, described the teachers’ union leader as “an arsonist pretending to be a firefighter”.
“Over and over he will say that it is the political activists that make the teachers want to leave. That’s silly. It is the iron claw of union-driven awakened projection.
‘The truth is that teachers’ unions have controlled schools and school boards for a long time, and they cannot admit that it is they who stand on the shoulders of educational failure.’
