Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon has come under fire for his office taking a “blatant special interest” in a case in which singer John Legend nearly lost his luxury Porsche this week.
Legend nearly had his car stolen Monday while visiting a recording studio. TMZ informed.
self evolution reported that the car is a Porsche Taycan, which boasts lightning-fast acceleration, which would have seen the thief go from 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds.
The police department said the luxury car was parked outside the studio and the thief was able to get in and sit “for a while” while he looked for a way to start the vehicle.
The man, who was booked on attempted grand theft auto, has since proven to be of particular interest to Gascon’s office, which sent an email to prosecutors on Wednesday, obtained by foxnewsindicating that he wanted to be informed.
The email from John Harlan, the acting deputy chief district attorney, noted that the case was possibly due that day.
The email read: ‘It is reported by the media that an unarmed person was arrested for attempting to steal John Legend’s Porsche somewhere in Los Angeles; the case could be presented today.

The legend who can be seen standing next to the luxury vehicle while shopping was nearly robbed on Monday while visiting a recording studio.
The man, who was arrested for attempted carjacking, was of particular interest to Gascon’s office, which on Wednesday emailed prosecutors saying it wanted to keep up with the case.
Legend’s car is reportedly a Porsche Taycan, just like this one, which boasts lightning-fast acceleration, which would have seen the thief sprint from 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds.
Gascón’s office issued a statement after the indictment, saying the memo to prosecutors was “routine practice.”

Harlan ended the memo by asking to be notified by text message along with two others if the case appears in the prosecutor’s records.
Legend is on record as a strong supporter of Gascon and some prosecutors have objected to his case receiving special treatment.
“The idea that a high-ranking administrator would put out an all-point bulletin to police this case smacks of special access and undue influence,” Assistant District Attorney John Lewin told Fox News of his boss’s priorities.
“Taking this type of action is offensive and is an insult to all law-abiding citizens of Los Angeles who are victims of crime and who are generally met with a lack of interest or outright hostility from this district attorney. and its administration.
“In essence, it appears that the acting deputy chief involved issued an all-points bulletin to keep an eye on this case as if he were tracking the Hillside Stranger.”
Gascón’s office issued a statement after the indictment, saying the memo to prosecutors was “routine practice.”
The email stated: ‘It is standard practice for the Deputy Head of the Charge Assessment Division to seek information on all cases that generate media interest.
“Emails such as these are issued in accordance with our media policy and are sent on an almost daily basis, especially when the identity of the suspect is unknown.”
The statement went on to say that the district attorney’s office believes that such actions “better prepare” them if they need to “respond quickly” to inquiries.
Legend is a well-known supporter of Gascon and supported him during his 2020 attempt to unseat then-Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey.
During the 2022 election cycle, Legend endorsed a number of district attorney hopefuls in multiple states.
The legend also wrote when Gascón took office that he was “proud to have supported his election.”
“This helps ensure that the office is better prepared to promptly respond to inquiries about cases that are of interest to the public,” the statement continued.
“This matter was handled in the same way that any media case is handled by the archiving unit.”
The legend is a well-known supporter of Gascon Lewin, he said.
He supported Gascon during his 2020 attempt to unseat then-Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey.
“George Gascon, our new Los Angeles District Attorney, just announced some major reforms on his first day,” Legend tweeted as Gascon took office.
‘Proud to have supported your election. This is the kind of change we voted for and the kind of change we need to move our system closer to true justice.’
He also supported Chesa Boudin, who was ousted as San Francisco’s top prosecutor in June during a recall election amid rising crime.
During the 2022 election cycle, Legend endorsed a number of district attorney hopefuls in multiple states.
“District attorney elections are crucial to improving our criminal legal system and 2022 is a year with thousands of races,” he tweeted in April.
The attempted theft of Legend’s Porsche was caught on surveillance cameras, prompting security to call police on Monday.
Los Angeles police arrested a man who entered the luxury sports car while the 43-year-old singer was inside a recording studio.
LAPD reportedly confronted the guy and asked what he was doing before claiming to authorities that he owned the Porsche.
Teigen and Legend, who will be married for ten years in 2023, have two children, daughter Luna, 6, and son Miles, 4.

The alleged thief got out of the car and began to walk, then run and engage in a brief chase before he was finally pulled over.
He was booked on felony attempted carjacking and is being held on $85,000 bond.
The alleged robbery attempt comes five years after a taxi driver was found guilty of stealing Legend’s luggage.
The robbery took place at New York’s JFK airport in March 2017 and the ‘All of You’ hitmaker reported that his Louis Vuitton holdall had been stolen from an unattended trolley.
John took to Twitter at the time to reveal that his bag, which had several expensive items inside, including a $30,000 pair of diamond-encrusted panther-shaped Cartier cufflinks and a $500 pair of sunglasses, as well as designer clothes, had been stolen.
Fortunately for the singer, the airport police saw the events on CCTV cameras in the area and managed to catch the culprit.
Queens taxi driver Agustin Hilario claimed he took the bag accidentally, but surveillance footage analyzed by Port Authority Police showed him driving the cart to an isolated area of the airport before grabbing the bag and fleeing.
After a week-long trial, Hilario was found guilty by a jury of criminal possession of stolen property.
