WNBA players and coaches condemn racist abuse surrounding playoff game – video
WNBA players were subjected to racial abuse online and in person in the lead-up to and during Game 2 of the series between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun. It followed a foul by Connecticut Sun’s DiJonai Carrington on Caitlin Clark in Game 1 that left the Indiana Fever star with a black eye. While both players said the injury was unintentional, Carrington shared an email on social media in which she was racially abused and threatened with sexual assault. Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas said, “I don’t think I’ve ever experienced racial slurs in my 11-year career [like those] of the Indiana Fever fan base.” Connecticut Sun coach Stephanie White said it was “unacceptable,” while Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides added, “It’s just not acceptable when it gets personal.”
