WNBA player Dijonai Carrington targeted with shocking George Floyd abuse after losing to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever

Connecticut Sun star DiJonai Carrington has slammed an internet troll’s “sick” George Floyd meme after he complained about Indiana Fever fans in Wednesday’s loss to Caitlin Clark & Co.

“Imagine if George Floyd’s murder was a joke,” Carrington wrote on X after the Sun lost 84-80 in Indianapolis. “All over a basketball game. This is insane.”

The edited image shows Floyd’s infamous 2020 killing by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who has since been convicted and sentenced to 22 years in prison. However, instead of the officer, Clark’s smiling face is superimposed over Chauvin’s, while Carrington’s headshot is pasted over the dying Floyd’s head.

The inflammatory meme, written by a paying X subscriber, was a response to Carrington’s criticism of Fever supporters: “the Indiana Fever has the meanest fans in the W. ew.”

Whether justified or not, the shocking meme may have confirmed Carrington’s thoughts about Fever fans in the eyes of others.

“Average Indy fan behavior,” one follower commented. “Exactly what she said.”

Another added: ‘Just say you hate black women and move on with your life.’

Floyd’s 2020 killing remains a hot topic after the Hennepin County coroner concluded he died of “cardiopulmonary arrest” as a result of “submission, restraint and neck compression by police.”

In 2023, social media users shared a single page of the examiner’s report to suggest that Floyd actually died of a drug overdose. But while he had fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system, he did not die from drugs, as expert witnesses testified during Chauvin’s 2021 trial.

Three other Minneapolis officers were sentenced to prison for violating Floyd’s civil rights and failing to restrain Chauvin.

The nasty meme followed a disappointing loss to Carrington and the Sun, a second-place team that entered this season 3-0 against Clark and the Fever.

Wednesday night, however, was a different story as Clark set a WNBA rookie record for 3-pointers by surpassing Rhyne Howard’s 85 from 2022. She would finish the night with 19 points and five assists, while Indiana’s Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 23.

Carrington played well, scoring a team-high 19 points and making six steals, but made just 1 of 5 attempts from long range and was fouled in the fourth quarter.

She was seen quieting the crowd after making her only three-pointer of the night, but Clark got things going again on the next possession by making a three-pointer of her own.

Indiana (15-16) plays Angel Reese and the Sky in Chicago on Saturday night, while Connecticut (22-8) heads to Washington on Sunday night for an afternoon showdown with the Mystics.
