With Call of Duty you can equip a dog

Among the countless additions to come Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 And War zone 2.0 in season 5, one in particular stands out as handsome and good: Merlin the dog.

According to today’s Call of Duty blog post, which details the five new operators, two new weapons, eight new skins and more that come with BlackCell (a premium version of the normal Battle Pass), the operator Arthur can tie a dog to his leash, giving him “the unparalleled advantage of company.” The dog in question, named Merlin, is a very handsome, good boy.

If you shoot even one bullet in Merlin’s direction, I will find you

Not only does Merlin have smooth black fur, a sweet Secret Service earpiece and piercing brown eyes, he also wears an outfit that wouldn’t look out of place in Death stranding. I can’t even get my cat to wear a bow tie. And she’s a tuxedo!

Merlin has his own finishing move, which you can glimpse at the 0:25 mark in the Blackcell season 5 trailer. Apparently, this little guy (read: merry killing machine) won’t be the only pet to come to him Modern warfare 2. The blog post mentions “other tactical pets,” and I hope cats, despite their indifference to people’s affairs, can play a bigger role in the shooter’s future. This guy is more creepy than cute:

At least Activision understands how weird orange cats can be

(OK, he’s pretty cute too, and he rocks out of that ballistic vest like crazy.)

It’s worth noting that Merlin and his unannounced furry friends can’t get hurt on the battlefield. That’s all well and good, because I definitely don’t want anything to happen to them. In fact, when I see Merlin hanging out in your uniform Modern warfare 2 multiplayer, DMZ, or War zone 2.0, you can be sure that I will not shoot you even if you are on the other team. I have principles.

My question is, if these Tactical Companions can’t get hurt, what happens to them if their operator dies? Do they sprint off to hang with the other animals? Do they sneak off to take a nap? Will they continue to run rampant, playing their part as invincible killing machines that multiply with each respawn, for the duration of the match? I have contacted Activision for comment.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Season 5 launches August 2nd in Multiplayer, DMZ and War zone 2.0.
