With a new Microsoft Teams update, you can now really express yourself, but you may need to be careful about exactly how you do it

Your Microsoft Teams channels could soon become a lot more visual thanks to a new update that will let users express themselves like never before.

The video conferencing service has revealed that it is working on adding video clips to replies to channel posts, along with audio clips.

The company is already available to reply to chat messages and says this addition should help users express themselves more effectively in team channels, but whether that’s in a positive or negative way is up to you.

In a update on the official Microsoft 365 roadmap, the company notes that users “can now use Teams video clips in the channel in addition to chat.”

Users can record themselves, but also their screen, for example to show a document, spreadsheet or other file or activity. Additionally, they can also record an audio-only clip, with all formats then added to a channel post or reply for extra engagement.

The update is currently listed as “in development,” but Microsoft has listed an expected start date for the rollout of April 2024, meaning users won’t have long to wait. Once released, it will be available to Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS users, with no additional security access or controls required.

The update is the latest in a series of adjustments to replies and messages in Microsoft Teams in recent weeks, as the company looks to make its platform more attractive to use.

This includes the ability to hide common channels in their workplace or organization, which Microsoft says will help to some extent, “so you can focus on the channels that matter most to you.”

The company also recently unveiled the launch of a “private line” for users in addition to their public number, which they can share with a small selection of chosen contacts, receiving direct, private calls to their most important or valued contacts, “using the deputies, administrators or assistants”.
