On dealing with grief after losing his father, Jules said, “I don't think you ever fully prepare for it. I have never experienced such a great personal loss in my life.

'I'm lucky that I made it to the age of 50 before I had to face these things.

'This man who was there for me is suddenly no longer there. I made the mistake of trying to keep it in the back of my mind.

'With all the hassle that comes with losing someone very close to you, there is an awful amount of administration involved.

'I probably didn't spend enough time on it. I find that I have a bit of catching up to do now, and I'm completely unaware of it.

“You can get quite emotional when you least expect it.”

He added that the deaths of his dogs – Teddy and Lola – also affected him greatly, adding: 'You can absolutely put the death of a pet on a par with that of humans. They are a big part of our lives.”

Jules lives with his other half Tania in Herefordshire and they share a young son called Jack.

Jules recently opened up about his family life and how his job at the BBC affects his relationship. He told the Express: 'Anyone with a busy life will tell you that balancing your working life and your family life can be tricky.

'I have a young son, we have our own lives here in Hertfordshire that are very dear to us, so you know, it can be difficult to balance it all, but it's a partnership, it's a team effort from the whole family .

“We all understand, we have mortgages to pay and bills to pay and the rest is our working lives. It's not easy, but that's the problem every family in the country faces. Let's be honest: you just have to work hard and play hard.'

After initially pursuing a brief career as an army officer, Hudson transitioned into TV production in 1996, focusing on historical programs.
