Winner of Oprah’s infamous Favorite Things giveaway reveals what went on behind the scenes

The world of TV is vastly different from how it appears on screen, as a winner of one of Oprah’s Favorite Things giveaways has revealed.

Candi Davis, 48, of Chicago, was in the audience for a one-off special of the popular TV segment in 2010 and was shocked to discover she was among a handful of people who would receive a selection of goods as gifts, with the grand prize being a Volkswagen Beetle.

In a series of recent TikToksshe revealed what happened when the cameras weren’t rolling, from a surprise comment from Oprah to not getting her vehicle until 11 months later.

In one clip, she talks about how, as the details of the gifts were being sorted out, Oprah “kicked off her high-heeled gold shoes and sat on the edge of the stage to talk to us.

While many viewers appreciated Candi’s recollection of events, some thought Oprah’s comment was an underhanded compliment. However, Candi defended Oprah

“She said, ‘I know you don’t feel like you deserve this kind of thing, and you don’t – none of you deserve it. But you’re worth it, and I want you to remember that.'”

However, Candi defended Oprah in a follow-up video, saying the media mogul had good intentions and said her piece after hearing audience members say they felt unworthy of the awards.

“She meant it very, very sweetly,” Candi explained.

In another clip, the TikToker reveals how the process of getting the car was “interesting” since the show was filmed in 2010, but the vehicle she won was a 2012 model “so it didn’t come out until the following fall.”

She finally got her car in October 2011 and out of four colors to choose from, she chose cherry red.

The Oprah show covered all expenses, including the taxes.

There is currently just over 130,000 kilometers on the clock. Along with a car, Candi won a wealth of other goods.

On the day of filming, she went home with an iPad, diamond earrings, a Nordstrom gift card for a bra fitting, Le Creuset cookware, a Coach wallet, and “a few other little things.”

She also received some edibles as a gift, such as “a chicken pie and croissants and tea.”

However, she revealed that all the clothes and shoes she won had to be ordered later to make sure the size was correct.

She explained, “The things that were size specific, like the Uggs, the jeans, the [cashmere] sweater, we were given little cards with a code on them and we had to go to the website and enter the code and choose our size and then they shipped everything to us.”

Candi still has all the items she won, apart from the edibles which are “long gone.”

At the request of viewers, she shows her prices in one TikTok and says her most used items are the black sequined Uggs and Le Creuset cookware.

Oprah’s Favorite Things ran from the 1990s to 2008 and has returned for one-off specials several times since its end.

“It was my favorite day of my entire life,” she said on TikTok, jokingly adding “even though I have two kids.”
