Wimbledon fans may get the chance to say goodbye to Rafael Nadal as the two-time champion’s name appeared on the entry list released on Wednesday morning.
The 37-year-old is playing his final year on tour and appears to be taking things week by week in terms of his fitness.
His inclusion in the Championships is no guarantee, but shows he is at least considering a final visit to the All England Club, where he won in 2008 and 2010.
The biggest priorities for Nadal are the French Open, which starts on Sunday, and the Olympic Games in Paris at Roland Garros.
The Spaniard may conclude that his body is not ready to take a detour to grass fields from his natural clay habitat between these two events.

It was also announced on Wednesday that Nadal would compete for Europe in the Laver Cup in Berlin in September.
The Laver Cup is tennis’s answer to the Ryder Cup, and Nadal may have marked the team competition as his farewell party – just as his great friend and rival Roger Federer did in 2022.
During the Laver Cup, Andre Agassi was unveiled as the man who will replace John McEnroe as team world captain from 2025.
Europe captain Bjorn Borg is also stepping down after Berlin, and his replacement will be announced soon.
