The championship got underway in spectacular style with former England captain David Beckham taking his place in the Royal Box on Centre Court, where he was joined by Sir David Attenborough, Katherine Jenkins, Jamie Cullum and Alexander Armstrong.

MailSport reporter Tamara Prenn revealed that a glass of Pimms at Wimbledon this year will cost tennis fans almost £10 after food and drink prices were increased before the tournament.

For those looking to quench their thirst, a pint of beer – tournament sponsor Stella Artois is likely to be the fortnight’s favourite – will set you back £8.50. That’s almost £1 more than last year’s relatively reasonable £7.55.

MailOnline reporters Olivia Christie and Mark Duell report that Emma Raducanu joked that she was inspired by England’s ‘ugly’ victory over Slovakia at the European Championships after beating Renata Zarazua in her opening match

The British star player defeated the world number 98 from Mexico 7-6 6-3, as Three Lions legend David Beckham looked on from the Royal Box.

It was the 21-year-old’s first race at the championship since she was absent due to injury 12 months ago, and her main goal was to reach the finish line.
