The British blue-chip index led the way among major global equity markets last year, staying afloat and delivering a respectable total return including dividends of 4.7 percent.
After a strong end to 2022 and a good start to 2023, it is now up 14 percent from its October low of 7,860, within a whisker of its all-time high of 7,877.
