The addition of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to the Democratic ticket may have sweetened the deal for pop star Taylor Swift.
Walz, 60, is a true Swiftie and publicly admitted as much in a 2022 tweet.
The governor posted a photo of the family cat Afton with his mouth open and his fangs protruding.
“Afton after being online all day and not being able to get tickets to Taylor Swift,” Walz wrote.
Swift, who endorsed President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, has yet to endorse this election cycle.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (R) made it even easier for pop star Taylor Swift to endorse the Democratic ticket. He’s a true Swiftie
Walz made his love for the pop star public in 2022 by sharing a photo of the family cat Afton baring his fangs after the governor couldn’t get concert tickets
As a singer, it took her years to get involved in politics, but in 2018 she finally ventured into Democratic waters, publicly endorsing Senate candidate Phil Bredesen over Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn in her home state of Tennessee.
She also supported Democrat Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives.
Swift’s endorsement came late in the race and didn’t do enough to get Bredesen over the hump. Cooper, who represented a more liberal district in Tennessee, won re-election.
In 2020, Swift also waited until early October to publicly endorse Biden and Harris.
She gave her endorsement while eating a plate of Biden-Harris blue cookies.
Swift said she was thrilled that Biden chose Harris as his running mate.
“I spoke to VMagazine about why I’m voting for Joe Biden for president. So fitting that it came out the night of the VP debate,” she wrote in a tweet on October 7, 2020. “I’m going to watch and support Kamala Harris by yelling at the TV a lot.”
Taylor Swift posted a photo of herself with Biden-Harris cookies in October 2020, officially endorsing the Democratic ticket. She’s widely expected to back Harris, but Governor Tim Walz may have made the endorsement a sweeter deal
“And I also have custom cookies,” she added, attaching a photo of the cookie to the post.
Swift’s endorsement this cycle will be one of the most coveted — and likely to infuriate former President Donald Trump, who has complained about the pop star’s liberal leanings, Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh said of The Apprentice book.
Another major sponsorship deal in the works is with Beyoncé, DailyMail.com reported on Sunday.
Beyoncé has already given Harris permission to use her song Freedom in campaign ads and at rallies.
Walz is also a fan of hers.
When Beyoncé brought her Renaissance World Tour through Minnesota last summer, Walz issued a proclamation declaring July 20, 2023, as Beyoncé Day.
