Will Smith reveals Rihanna’s reaction to his new film Emancipation amid mediocre reviews

Will Smith has revealed what Rihanna thinks of her new movie Emancipation, her first movie since slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.

The 54-year-old Academy Award winner shared the 34-year-old mogul’s private reaction earlier this week as he walked the red carpet for the premiere of his graphic slave drama.

Smith is trying to move on from the enduring scandal of his televised mugging, but Emancipation’s lackluster reviews aren’t helping his efforts.

“Rihanna loved the cinematography,” Smith told ME! News. “She couldn’t get over the look of the movie and how she felt about it.”

The multi-platinum hitmaker attended a star-studded screening of Emancipation in October, rallying around the beleaguered star of King Richard in his private movie theater.

Rihanna’s boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, was also in attendance, along with Dave Chappelle, Tyler Perry and Kenya Barris.

“Which is great with blacks,” Smith joked to E! News, ‘is that they talk to the screen all the time, so you don’t have to ask people’s opinions. Therefore, I did not have to ask for the opinion of anyone in the room.

In late October, Smith posted images of her intimate A-list screening on Instagram.

Critics seem to be split down the middle when it comes to enjoying Emancipation.

The film currently has a mediocre score of 50 percent on rotten tomatoeswith various reviews describing it as ‘shallow’ and nothing more than a ‘B movie’.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the director of Training Day and Olympus Has Fallen, Emancipation tells the story of a slave named Peter who escapes from a brutal plantation in Louisiana and goes on a hellish quest for freedom.

Based on a true story, the historical epic sees Smith embody the role of Peter, who will eventually help prove the cruelty of American slavery by providing the abolitionist movement with gruesome images of his lacerated back.

One famous face who certainly didn’t make it to Smith’s Emancipation screening in October was Chris Rock.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star has seen his storied career and pristine public image unravel since he took the Oscars stage in March and assaulted the comedian for making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

The shocking incident resulted in Smith’s resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and a ban from attending its ceremonies for the next 10 years.
