Will Mellor has claimed that intense training sessions for Strictly Come Dancing left him with painful injuries – including: ‘purple feet’ and knees ‘held together with tape’.

The Coronation Street star, 46, made the confession during a performance on Friday’s The One Show with his dance partner Nancy Xu, 31.

Showing a video of the star holding a pack of frozen peas on his knees, host Alex Jones joked, “We’re all worried about your knees!”

He replied, ‘My knees are bad, but my feet are purple – I don’t think that’s normal.

‘I’m sitting there with my feet – I found my wife’s foot bath and I have ice in it too. Honestly my knees are like a Blue Peter project.

‘I have so much tape in there that keeps everything together. It’s not for old people, is it, this show. My body doesn’t know what’s going on.’

He told The sun: ‘This is it for me. If you’re going to do one, do the biggest one and I’m glad I learned a skill every week.

“I couldn’t sit on a show waiting to be voted out, I’d rather at least learn a skill and get my hands on something and really sink my teeth into it.

Strictly will undergo a major schedule change, with live shows airing Friday and Sunday to avoid clashes with the World Cup.

The sporting event will be held in winter for the first time this year, due to the intense summer heat in the Middle East.

To avoid any potential clashes between football matches and Strictly, live shows will now take place on Friday and Sunday, rather than the usual Saturday.

The shows that will affect this are the quarter- and semi-finals, which were supposed to air on December 3 and December 10, respectively.

A Strictly spokesperson confirmed to MailOnline: “Strictly Come Dancing will continue to bring glitz, glamor and glorious dancing to homes across the country during the FIFA World Cup 2022.

‘The quarter-final of Strictly Come Dancing will now be broadcast live on Friday, December 2, and the semi-final will now be broadcast live on Sunday, December 11 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.’

This could indicate that the final of the dance program will be broadcast on Saturday 17 December.

The chaos in the schedule has been caused by the World Cup hosted by Qatar, a controversial decision that has led to much backlash.

The rescheduling of the tournament to winter has implications for the Premier League and Championship seasons.
